Why build an online presence
Why does your business need an address in cyberspace? Will your customers really be looking for your business on the information superhighway? Before you can answer these questions you need to understand a little about the demographics of the internet users.
As you can see by the above chart all income brackets heavily use the internet. The heaviest area of use next to email is the “Product/Service Information Search”.
There are now more than 102 million US households with internet access or about 58 percent of all US households. A year ago it was 52 percent and in July of 1999 it was 39 percent. In January of 2004 comScore Media Metrix announced the internet population reached 152.1 million users in December of 2003.
It is obvious that internet usage is growing. According to Juniper Research (http://www.internet.com/corporate/releases/04.01.29-newjupresearch.html) broadband usage will double between 2004 and 2008. With broadband and the always on internet families are seeing computers work there way into the kitchens and family rooms across America
It is easy to see why almost ever business should be online. Here are few questions you must ask yourself.
Can I provide value to my existing customers? (information, easy contact)
  1. Can I attract new customers? (product/services searches)
  2. Can I provide more detailed information to my customers? (detailed product/service descriptions)
  3. Can I utilize the web for marketing? (banner ads on other websites, email campaigns)
  4. Do my competitors have an internet presence?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions then you need a website!
